Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management), the cooperation partners and students from primary school Karrepad in Groningen unveiled the first poems bank on the dike with a poem by Renée Luth on 19 December 2019. The other poems banks were placed in the course of 2020 in connection with the corona measures: at Nansum (Lilian Zielstra), at Nieuwstad (Rik Andreae), at Spijksterpompen (Aly Freije) and at the beach of Bierum (Famke Gussenhoven).

The Poem Bench at Bierumerstrand (often also referred to as the dike poem bench) is a well-known marked viewpoint and resting point along the Groningen Wadden coast, located near Bierum and the Ems estuary. It is a popular stop during hiking and cycling routes along the sea dike. From this point, you have a wide view over the Ems, the surrounding salt marsh landscape, and the nearby bird and nature reserve.
