Spiekershausen has been documented since 1319. The place name comes from a ford across the Fulda, which was fortified with sticks and sticks - also called bacon or spikes. Around 1800, Spiekershausen was known as the "main smuggling hotspot", which prompted the County of Hesse to build a customs house. The sculptor Eberlein, known from the Tillyschanze, was born in Spiekershausen.
