I didn't really notice it at first.
In my hometown there are not only steep streets, but also around 500 stairs with more than 12,000 steps (Wikipedia) to take one or two shortcuts.
The cities of Stuttgart and Wuppertal have been competing for the title of the city with the most stairs in Germany for years.
