The church consists of a Romanesque choir from the second half of the 13th century, a sacristy, a tower, and a choir arm (now a mortuary chapel) dating from around 1480-1520, and a somewhat younger basilica nave dating from around 1524.

Like many other coastal churches, the church is dedicated to the sailor, Saint Nicholas.

Initially the church had a nave and a choir. The tower was added around 1300, a little later (around 1400) the chapel, then the side aisles, then the vault, and finally in 1667 the vestibule of the churches.
