The wind hole is located on the elongated back of the Damberg, which consists of Oberkreideflysch. The entrance is located directly where the silhouette of the mountain slopes down to the Ennstal. A tectonic fault on the western flank led to the formation of caves.

The name is based on the often powerful rushing in it, like that of a wind, where its name comes from. The total length of the corridor is 96 meters with a total height difference of 37.6 meters, in the lower part about 6 m deep ladder descent.

But there were also other assumptions about the cave: an escape route from the Garsten monastery on the other bank of the Enns should come to light here, according to other reports even from the Styraburg at the confluence of the Enns and Steyr rivers.
