Each of the communities involved had one or more farm mills in the valley. 32 mills stood from the source in Hausbay to the mouth in castles on the Moselle. The paths from Thörlingen, Bickenbach, Emmelshausen and Gondershausen met in the valley of the Schultheiser Mühle.

It is possible that this site, where the valley opens very wide, has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

We assume that the small stable opposite the mill has existed since around 1730. The rear upper "stall" is newly built. It offers space for a chamber above the former ox stall. In the corner next to the stable and the ledge, we found the remains of an old fireplace during the construction work on the terrace in the 1950s and mid-1970s.

The mill did not always look like it does today.

Originally it was a wood/stone/half-timbered construction from the beginning of the 17th century, which was repeatedly modified in the early 19th century.

The original building was a one-story stone square built against the rocky outcrop at basement level. Opposite this quadrilateral was the vaulted cellar, which is built over today.
