The Bislicher Insel near Xanten is one of the last intact floodplain landscapes in Germany and an important refuge for migratory birds. In the winter months, a natural spectacle that repeats itself every year begins on the Lower Rhine: around 170,000 migratory birds, including up to 150,000 white-fronted geese and 15,000 bean geese, migrate in huge flocks from Siberian regions to the floodplain landscapes to overwinter.
