The Schafberg is a 999.3 m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the western edge of the Swabian Jura near Balingen in Baden-Württemberg. In some measurements, its height is also exactly 1000 m above sea level. NHN specified, so it would be the lowest and the most northerly of the then twelve thousand of the entire low mountain range. The high plateau is mainly forested with spruce, mountain pine, sycamore maple and calcareous beech, there are also unforested areas with the typical calcareous lean mountain meadows and juniper heaths. The latter were created by shepherding, which has played an important role on the Schafberg for centuries and to which it probably also owes its name. The high plateau falls steeply and rocky on almost all sides. An original natural landscape has been preserved in the rocky area.
