This castle was the residence of the Lords of Gorsleeuw, successively the families Van Leeuw (13th century), Van Gelinden (14th-15th century), Van den Bosch (1436 - 17th century), Van Bodbergen (1639 - 1701) and De Copis. (1701 - 2nd half 19th century). It then came into the possession of the d'Aspremont-Lynden family through marriage, and in 1917 it passed to Bauduin de Beaufort, who died in 1960. Subsequently, the castle served as a restaurant from 1967-1973, after which it was sold to a private.

Although the existence of the Lords of Gorsleeuw can be traced back to the 13th century, no remains of such an age have been found on the site of this castle. The oldest part is a 17th-century building in Maasland renaissance style. It was a U-shaped moated building.

Around 1820 it was converted by Baron De Copis into a classicistic whole. Part of the canals was filled in and another part was transformed into a pond. A new south facade was built, designed by M. Raskin, and the side wings were also replaced by new buildings. In the second half of the 19th century, the 17th-century castle was demolished and in 1923 a round tower was built against the northern facade. The cellars and a core of part of the building still remain of the 17th-century castle.
