The Catholic Church of St. Michael on Valentinstrasse in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel is a subsidiary of the Buerer mother parish of St. Urbanus. It began to emerge in 1911, when the number of residents in Hassel rose to 10,000 in 1903 and 1907, as the shafts of the two state mines Bergmannsglück and Westerholt were sunk.

On August 27, 1911, the inauguration of Pastor Franz Effing and the ecclesiastical blessing of the emergency church took place. On November 11, 1911, St. Michael was separated from the Buer mother church, St. Urbanus, and elevated to its own parish. The foundation stone for the construction of the new church was laid on March 14, 1915. On September 25, 1917, the Bishop of Münster consecrated the church, which was built in the neoclassical style according to the plans of the architectural team Ernst Brand and Ernst Stahl.

The St. Michael church on Valentinstraße in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel is a daughter company of the Buers mother parish of St. Urbanus. It became necessary in 1911 when the number of residents in Hassel, due to the sinking of the shafts of the two state mines, Bergmannsglück and Westerholt, moved to 10,000 in 1903 and 1907, around half of whom were Catholics. The Sunday service was first celebrated in a school barrack. Then - in 1911 - the farmer gave neighboring Schulte-Otte a plot of land on which an emergency church could be built.
