In 1935, when it was completed, the reservoir had a length of 1700 m and a width of up to 700 m with a total size of 100 ha. The water depth increased from 1.5 m to 1.5 m from south to north.
Until 2009, the reservoir was used for recreation, including swimming, sailing and rowing. He was one of the few lakes in Germany that were suitable for ice sailing.

The lake is currently in danger. His sole has been leaking since about 2005, so that the water level dropped or could be kept stable only with great effort. In the summer of 2009 he was almost completely dry.
In 2017 it was decided to give up the reservoir as such.
