The bridge, built between 1885-1887 and designed by the architect Vilhelm Dahlerup, connects the city center with the Nørrebro district. The bridge was named after Queen Louise, who was married to Christian 9. After a renovation, there are many people on the bridge when the weather is good. A large number of cyclists use the bridge on weekdays.

Nørrebro is a hip, multicultural neighborhood popular with students and creative people. There are kebab shops and small shops along the main street, Nørrebrogade. The bars in the side streets are open until late at night. Foodies prefer the fine dining restaurants and hip cafes on Jægersborggade. Nearby is the park-like Assistance Cemetery, along the paths of which are the graves of famous people such as Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard
