The Reformed Church of Delfzijl, also known as the Center Church, was built in 1830 as a successor to the Garrison Church of Delfzijl. The original Garrison Church was built in 1614 and was located on the islet on the islet of Conijnebergh, which was completely outside the old fortress. Later the new fortress was built around it. The church was so damaged during the Siege of Delfzijl (1813-1814) that it had to be demolished. The current church was not built until 1830. In 1925 the church was provided with a northern cross arm and the tower was replaced by a copy in the style of the garrison church from 1614. Thirty years later the so-called Kleine Kapel was added.
