The church was completely destroyed in 1945 and has been rebuilt since 2010. The church has been open to the public since 1999 during the summer months (May to September) and is used for exhibitions and events. Since 2008 the tower has been open to the public with a covered viewing platform at a height of around 50 meters.

The Gothic church was built in the 13th century from brick. The church tower was built in the 14th century. The bombing of Anklam in the last days of the war destroyed the church to the ground. In the mid-90s, the church was begun to be saved and renovated.
