Hiking

The church in Gildehaus dates from the 13th century. In 1246, Count Balduin and his son Otto donated the church in Schüttorf to the Wietmarschen monastery as atonement for an abuse of their bailiff's power. But they immediately expressed their intention to build a new church in the west of the Schüttorf parish. In 1321 the name "Gyldehus" appears for the first time in a document as a location. The church was dedicated to Saints Anne and Mary, mother of Jesus.
