The present church was probably consecrated in 1511 either in the name of Mary or even "John the Baptist."

In any case, it has long been called the "John the Baptist Church." A depiction of John the Baptist can be seen on the keystone in the choir vault directly above the current altar, complemented by four additional keystones depicting the Three Wise Men and Mary with the Infant Jesus.

The octagonal sandstone baptismal font is as old as the church and, as a special feature, depicts the seven Catholic sacraments and, on the eighth side, an angel holding the Württemberg coat of arms.

In 1534, the church became Protestant.

In 1785/86, the congregation built a special hut on the churchyard wall for the fire engine and fire buckets, along with other equipment. Around 1850, the small building was converted into the parish bakehouse.

The venerable Gothic church has dominated the Magstadt townscape for over 500 years. Here people meet for church services, baptisms, weddings and concerts.

Whether it was consecrated in 1511 in the name of "John the Baptist" as the patron saint or probably to Mary, the mother of Jesus, can no longer be clearly clarified. In any case, it has been called "St. John the Baptist Church" for a few hundred years.

The high church interior with its Gothic tracery windows is impressive.

The eye falls on the organ in the choir and the three choir windows from 1960 with the motifs Good Friday in the left window, Easter and Pentecost in the right, and the representation of the risen and exalted Christ in the middle with the 12 gates of the heavenly Jerusalem above. On the north side in the choir there is also the stained glass window from 1932, which survived September 10, 1944 and shows the Christmas story.

The sculpture of the crucified Christ catches the eye, which is complemented by that of the risen one on the sound cover of the stone pulpit. The stone baptismal font from 1511 depicts the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church and an angel holding the coat of arms of the Duchy of Württemberg. The ribbed vault in the choir shows on six keystones above the organ an angel holding the Württemberg coat of arms, then Mary with the baby Jesus, then the three wise men and finally above today's altar John the Baptist.

Saint John the Baptist, to whom the church "St. John the Baptist" is dedicated, is - like Saint Joseph - a man on the threshold between the Old and the New Testament. His parents are Zechariah and Elizabeth. After the proclamation of God's incarnation, the Mother of God visits her relative Elizabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, John the Baptist.

This is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner. He lives in the desert, preaches the repentance of sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan, where Jesus also comes to be baptized, being filled with the Holy Spirit that descends on him from heaven.
