The Saint Nicholas Church in Lochristi is named after Saint Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of merchants, students, travelers, sailors, marriageable daughters and prisoners.
The crossing tower with a short slate spire was built in the 15th century with Balegem and Ledian stone.
Inside the church we find a number of interesting pieces of furniture and statues, including the polychrome wooden statue of Mary brought over from the chapel of Lobos.
This miraculous statue of Mary was unharmed when the church was bombed during WWII, although the altarpiece was badly damaged.

St. Nicholas' Church was originally an early Gothic building from the 13th century, but was thoroughly renovated and redecorated in 1654, 1720, and 1837. This resulted in a classicist church with a Gothic central tower.

Around the church, in addition to the War Memorial, you will also find several contemporary statues, including those of Reynaert de Vos, Father Damien, and the floral artwork "Flower Lovers."
