A beacon was built by the Danes on the north mole head of the Glückstadt harbor in 1845, after a light was installed at the mouth of the river in 1805. The fire consisted of a lantern on a wooden scaffolding and had a red solid fire with 6th order mirror optics. At a height of fire of 14.6 ft, it was visible 2 nautical miles. The fire shone across the fairway from southwest to west to north.

A new beacon was built in 1914 on the head of the north pier. The 10 m high white iron lattice tower with gallery and round lantern began operations on August 1, 1914. The belt lamp in the lantern house was initially operated with incandescent gas, but the switch to electrical operation took place as early as 1917. The last light source was a 70 watt incandescent lamp. In 1978 the tower was connected to the remote control. Its fire was visible 9 nautical miles.

On November 30, 1995, the tower had to give way to a new building. At the request of the city of Glückstadt, the structure resembles its predecessor. The 10 m high steel tower was placed on the foundation of the old tower. The lantern house is of the same design, but can be reached via a staircase inside. With this new building, the identifier was also changed. The fire height is 9 meters,

The tower on the opposite south pier from 1906 houses a writing level.

In 1937 red and white banded lighthouses were built in the Vordeich area and on the outskirts of Glückstadt. Both towers, the 34 meter high upper light (left picture) and the 17 m high lower light are made of concrete and had an iron triangular lantern with angled window glazing. The towers are fitted with lens optics in their lanterns, which were initially operated by incandescent gas and later electrically. These Glückstadt lighthouses were replaced by new buildings of a similar construction in July 2018.
