The community of St. Annen came into being in 1491 through the embankment of the Eider island of Bösbüttel. This was the merit of three men from the Russebolingmannen family, who lived in this area in the north of Dithmarschen. That is why the three crucians from the coat of arms of this family have been included in the coat of arms of the community.
The three Russebolinger Heymen Claus, Russen Marquart and Junge Claus Johann donated a chapel for the new place, which was consecrated to St. Anna, the mother of Mary. The name of the chapel was transferred to the place.
