    1862
Foundation of Gustav Ludwig Alsen & Comp. Cement factory in Itzehoe. At that time there was already the company Edward Fewer & Co. in Lägerdorf, which produced cement on site.

    1863
The company's chalk mining began in Lägerdorf in 1863. At the end of the year, Otto Friedrich Alsen, the founder's father, took over the cement factory. In 1865, Heinrich Christian Lucian Alsen, the eldest son, also took part in the company.

    1867
The company is converted into a general partnership and now bears the new name "O. F. Alsen & Sohn". As of 1875, Alsen's export activities are significantly increased and a distribution warehouse is even set up in New York.

    1884
The company is converted into a stock corporation and is given a new name: "Alsen'sche Portland-Cement Fabriken AG". In the same year, the Portland cement factory and lime distillery are also acquired and integrated by Ehlers & Co., Uetersen. This year ten North German merchants founded a new competitor company in the immediate vicinity of Alsen: the "Breitenburger Portland-Cement-Fabrik" in Lägerdorf.

The Alsen cement factory. I find it fascinating to look at such old systems. This factory used to cover half of Itzehoe with a gray veil. The buildings are either demolished or crumbling.
