The 32 meter high dam wall offers a beautiful view over the entire lake.
The Glörtalsperre, built in 1904/06 by damming the Glör stream and inaugurated on June 11, 1906, has shone in new splendor since the restoration of the dam wall in the years 2000 to 2004 and today offers a worthwhile all-year round for those looking for relaxation from the near and far destination.
Originally, the 25 hectare "small" lake south of Hagen in the catchment area of Breckerfeld (Ennepe-Ruhr district), Halver and Schalksmühle (Märkischer district) ensured the supply of the small iron and wire industry with cooling water and driving water for the water wheels. Later, the dam served as an emergency reservoir for drinking water and, to a lesser extent, for water regulation in the Volme and Ruhr.
