Hiking
The old Birkenhainer Straße trade route, which connected Frankfurt and Nuremberg, among other places, runs along the ridges in a curve around Lohrhaupten. For overnight stops in Lohrhaupten, horse-drawn carts from the west took the Gelnhausen Valley, while those from the southeast used the Gemünden Valley. This also served as a shortcut. However, the steep inclines and declines made this shortcut only practical if the stopover was to take place in Lohrhaupten.
