At the school, as was customary at the time, there was a house for the head teacher. The house was first housed in the school building, which was a lot longer than the colony houses. Around 1862, the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid transferred its teaching task to the surrounding municipalities due to budget cuts. From that moment on, the primary school of the colony was called Wilhelminaoord; National School ll.
Until 1844, the great educator in the colony was Master Jan Hessels van Wolda. He started as a volunteer in 1818 in Frederiksoord. He was then a teacher in Vledder. Johannes van den Bosch saw potential in him and hired him to set up education in all colonies.
