The Horticultural School was founded in 1884 thanks to a gift from Majoor van Swieten. This in memory of his son Gerard Adriaan who passed away at the age of 21. This school gives extra substance to the pillar of training. Until 1969, the oldest horticultural school in the Netherlands was located in this building. In the same year, a new, modern building was put into use. In 2005 the Horticultural School was closed.
