In the immediate vicinity of the Havelterberg numerous burial mounds, grave fields and urn fields have been found that were used to bury the dead in the Bronze Age and early and late Iron Age (5000 - 2500 years ago). Research in 1918 and 1944, conducted by A.E. van Giffen, has shown that two burial mounds on the crest of the Havelterberg date from the Iron Age. The associated residential area and the characteristic rectangular fields from that time, the Celtic fields, extend on the southern flank of the Havelterberg. Unfortunately, a large part of this has now disappeared as a result of previous reclamation and the construction of a German airfield during the Second World War.
