In the past, the former municipality of Arzo (since 2009 a district of Mendrisio) has associated its name with the marble quarries in its area. The municipal coat of arms, designed in 1953, also features a golden cathedral in the middle of a white cross on a red field in honor of the banners of Como, Milan and Lugano, commemorating the contribution that numerous stonemasons from Arzo made to the construction of the cathedrals of three cities.
The village image is classified in the inventory of protected sites in Switzerland (ISOS) as a site of national importance in Switzerland
