In the past, the former municipality of Arzo (since 2009 a district of Mendrisio) has associated its name with the marble quarries in its area. The municipal coat of arms, designed in 1953, also features a golden cathedral in the middle of a white cross on a red field in honor of the banners of Como, Milan and Lugano, commemorating the contribution that numerous stonemasons from Arzo made to the construction of the cathedrals of three cities.
