The German Military Cemetery in Ysselsteyn (municipality of Venray) contains 31,598 graves. The central memorial with a concrete cross forms the centre of the park. The cross has a natural stone casing and is surrounded by short grave columns made of natural stone. The circle of grave columns also contains five glass, semi-transparent columns. Near the memorial is a carillon with 25 bells hanging in five steel structures. The carillon is 4 metres high. A Gingko tree (Gingko biloba) has been planted at the entrance to the cemetery. To enable relatives to quickly find the grave of their fallen, the site has been divided into 106 blocks with twelve rows of 25 graves each. Stone section markings have been placed along the 800-metre-long road that crosses the cemetery. The cemetery is approximately 30 hectares in size.

As a memorial to the many dead, such places are still very important today. "Now, Lord, let your servant go in peace, as you said." However, those buried here did not divorce in peace, but became victims of war and tyranny.

The most important and at the same time everlasting function of the military cemeteries or war cemeteries is therefore to commemorate this and to remind each generation anew to keep peace in the long term.

"Soldier graves are the greatest preachers for peace," a quote from Albert Schweitzer.

With 31,585 soldiers dig very impressive.

Today my "photo project" revived again.
