The Weidach and Zettach forest was placed under nature protection on November 30th, 1990 due to its ecological and cultural landscape importance. Here is the largest orchard area in Stuttgart, which is both an important part of our cultural landscape and ecologically valuable. The high-stemmed fruit trees offer space for birds and bats because of their tree cavities. There is also an occurrence of the rare squill here, which was also the main reason for placing this area under nature protection. Rare butterfly species in particular are to be protected here through the extensification of the meadows.
