Ernst Schalke was initially employed as a servant at the Große Oven farm at 41 Heßlerstrasse / corner of Röhrenstrasse, Friederike Stratmann (* March 24, 1851, † March 16, 1916) as a maid.

The grave of Ernst Schalke - the former owner of the Grosse Oven farm. The "last" Schalke. His villa is on Kanzlerstrasse. The villa was built in 1898. Farmer Ernst Schalke died in 1939 and he signed the villa over to the city of Gelsenkirchen - with the proviso that the city had to look after his grave.

Ernst Schalke was only a farmhand on the Große Oven farm. Through a planned marriage to the widow Friederike Große Oven née Stratmann (formerly Maid), he suddenly became a landowner and thus also came into possession of large estates.
