Best Hikes to Penkefitz Village

Tips

  • Penkefitz has been part of the city of Dannenberg since the municipal reform. The Wurtendorf, characterized by half-timbered houses, is located in the middle of the Elbhöhen-Wendland nature park on a dead arm of the Elbe, the so-called Tauben Elbe. Until 1989 Penkefitz was right on the inner-German border.
The Strachauer Rad settlement, which is located directly on the Elbe dike and consists of several courtyards, belongs to Penkefitz. The two extensive courtyards were particularly hard hit by the Elbe floods in 2002 and 2006.
