Bogense Church is located on top of a coastal slope. From the church hill, you have an impressive view of the sea, and the beautiful church with its tall tower and steeple can be seen from afar.Bogense Church was built in the 12th century as a small village church,
but was rebuilt and expanded several times. In the 15th century, it even had two floors. The second floor may have been used as a granary or warehouse for the townspeople. In 2009, the church underwent a thorough renovation. The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, also spelled Saint Nikolaj, the saint of sailors. This is why the church is also called St. Nicholas Church. The church tower faces east, unlike almost all Danish church towers, which face west. The church stands too close to the slope to allow the tower to face east. The tower used to be an important landmark visible from afar. The tower has a tall octagonal spire covered with more than 27,000 black-tarred oak shavings. At the top is a dome with a diameter of 60 cm.visitnordfyn.de/nordfyn/explore/bogense-kirke-st-nicholaus-kirche-gdk623270
