In the Schweinsheide between Bassum and Harpstedt, a telecommunication system for the military communication of the Wehrmacht was to be built on behalf of the Deutsche Reichspost (long wave radio system for submarines). A total of three radio towers were planned, which should be built on massive bunkered substructures. Construction began around 1939. However, since the need for the radio system was no longer classified as important, the project finally stopped in September 1941. Only one of the bunkers had been structurally completed by then, but the technical facilities were no longer installed. The two other towers were only completed up to the base plate.

A bizarre place that you can encounter here - slightly situated in the forest. An old bunker built shortly before the Second World War invites you to explore. To be more precise, it is "only" the base of a telecommunications system that was planned at the time, but which was never put into operation. When I visited there was also an opening so that one could have gone inside. But the outside of the building was "scary" enough for me, so I preferred to leave it alone. In any case worth seeing!
