Tips

  • Edit historyThe preparatory work for the Harpstedt air munitions facility began in 1934, and actual construction began in 1935. The facility was built in a wooded area north of the town. In the ammunition plant, mainly bombs and shells for anti-aircraft guns were detonated, stored and prepared for dispatch to Luftwaffe units and units. From the late 1950s, the German Armed Forces gradually took over individual areas of the property. It was not until the late 1970s that the entire site was cordoned off as a military area again. From 1961, the escort battery of the 112th rocket artillery battalion was stationed in the Adelheide district of Delmenhorst in the Barbara barracks. From February 1963, the 5th US Army Field Artillery Detachment, which was subordinate to the 552nd US Army Artillery Group, was housed here. From 1963, the stored nuclear weapons were jointly guarded. These were warheads from the Honest John missile system, later projectiles for 155 and 203 mm artillery pieces for the 11th Panzergrenadier Division.Conventional ammunition was stored in the neighboring site ammunition defeat 241/2. There was also a large fuel depot. In the early 1990s, the special ammunition depot and the location ammunition defeat was dissolved. There has been no military use since the late 1990s (the BW is currently practicing again here on the site). In 2005 a civilian buyer was found.Important information about the Lost Place from the time of World War II and KK on the Internet:

  • Very interesting and when it gets dark, a bit scary. My husband recently cycled there and even made a video about it

  • An old ammunition depot in the middle of the forest. There is much to discover here. Several abandoned bunkers and a lookout tower. Some buildings and the tower are no longer accessible. It was different a few years ago. There you could still on the tower. For security reasons, this is now sealed off.
