Very beautiful and evocative cemetery, for those who know the history of the Great War.
On 5-6 November 2017, two isolated Italian divisions try to reach the Friulian plain. With the enemy behind Pielungo, Forno and Pradis di Sopra are also facing him.
Twice they managed to advance (in Pielungo and Forno) but in Val da Ros they had to succumb and surrender (due to the evident technological superiority of the enemy)
Then the Germans ordered the population to bury the dead, both Italians and Germans.
The sites coincided with the places of the clashes.
At the end of the war, in 2020 the bodies were all gathered in the cemetery of Val da Ros.
During Fascism, which had a mania for ossuaries, the Italian bodies were moved.
The German bodies were also removed but not all.
    Snow doesn't do it justice.
The German crosses and the Italian tombstones (under the small snowdrifts) are arranged like the military in battle. The Germans in the south (the crosses at the end of the cemetery) block the way for the Italians
who try to gain the Friuli plain from the north.

A rather grueling cemetery for fallen soldiers of the First World War on a sloping hill.
