The blackberry garden is an educational collection of more than 40 native and regional blackberry species, all from the Flemish Ardennes. The garden was laid out in Burreken by the Blackberry Working Group - a study working group of Natuurpunt region Flemish Ardennes plus. The driving force was brother Joris De Ruyver, who was one of the founders of “batology” – the study of blackberries – in our country.
In the garden you will discover the diversity of blackberries. You can compare the different types and determine with all your senses that the blackberry family is more than a collection of prickly plants. The species are clearly arranged according to their most important habitat. An accompanying brochure will help you find your way and can be found at the entrance to the blackberry garden.
