The Killisfeld used to be an open field in an otherwise wooded area.
The name goes back to an estate with a large rabbit enclosure, which was managed in the 18th century by Karoline Luise von Hessen-Darmstadt, the first wife of Margrave Karl-Friedrich.
At that time, rabbits were called "Kielhasen", from which the name Killisfeld=rabbit field is derived.
Today, this formerly free field is largely covered by the Karlsruhe-Mitte motorway junction.
