This tunnel "is one of the last experimental tunnels in the Imsbach mining area, excavated between 1917 and 1921 in the desperate search for further ore deposits. It is only about 25 meters long and reached a narrow manganese mineralization at about 20 meters, which, however, turned out to be unmineable."

He didn't want to be separated from his girlfriend and was cared for by her here. The two actually married later, according to the information sign in front of the barred entrance to the tunnel.
