This tunnel "is one of the last experimental tunnels in the Imsbach mining area, excavated between 1917 and 1921 in the desperate search for further ore deposits. It is only about 25 meters long and reached a narrow manganese mineralization at about 20 meters, which, however, turned out to be unmineable."

A former forced laborer is said to have hidden here after World War II, fearing he would be sent home by the victorious Allied powers. He didn't want to be separated from his girlfriend, who cared for him here. The two later did indeed marry. This is what the information panel in front of the barred entrance to the tunnel says.
