Best Hikes to Quinten
Tips
  • The idyllic Quinten is one of the few car-free villages in Switzerland. You can only get to the village on foot or by boat. Traditional houses and buildings are crowded between Lake Walen and the steep cliffs of the Churfirsten. Due to the mild climate, vines, fig trees and citrus trees grow here.

  • I would rather travel from Quinten to Weesen, as I feel the rocky descent to Quinten more difficult than the climb.

  • Regarding safety: going up is always safer than going down!

  • The hike from Weesen to Quinten was beautiful and recommended. The first few kilometers until shortly after Betlis are for everyone. After that comes a fairly steep climb on a relatively open and well maintained path.

The descent, on the other hand, was more for those who had a head for heights and were sure-footed. As Michael and Thomas mentioned above, the trail is rocky and, at least in October, covered in fine gravel and dust which made the whole exercise even more unsafe. I would have marked this part as a mountain trail rather than a hiking trail.

Possibly from Quinten to Weesen, going up the stony path and going down the wider path would be easier.

  • You can hike from various directions (left, right & even above) or take the boat if you like?

  • I strongly recommend hiking Weesen to Quinten, rather than the other way round. As you get close to Quinten, you have to walk down uneven rocks, and going down is safer than going up it !

At Quinten, there are two nice restaurants, then you can catch the bus across to Murg (7.20 CHF, one-way) but this is not included in the SBB day card, or GA travel card.

  • A very friendly, car-free village with catering facilities, farm shops, public toilets, restaurants and accommodation. Accessible on foot or by boat.

  • Quinten is very worth seeing with its place itself and the hiking possibilities,
Worth seeing are the vineyards of the lake and the town of Quinten with its lovingly colored gardens and houses.

  • I think the hike from Walenstadterberg to Quinten is the most beautiful. From Walenstadt by post bus up the mountain and from there on foot with a wonderful view of Quinten. Then take the sea taxi back to Walenstadt.
