You can't believe that right beside Brecon Cathedral is this delightful, ancient forest right at the heart of the town of Brecon. Priory Grove is a great family- and dog-friendly landscape, teeming with oak, ash and beech trees (dotted around are remains of really old trees), with the River Honddu flowing rapidly along the length of the forest and a few waterfalls dotted here and there along the trail.

As our delighftul Jenny has outlined, Priory Groves is a mixed woodland walk that borders the Honddu river. It is a lovely forest walk any time of year. There are always some birds to see, particularly dippers and grey wagtails. In the springtime, there is a nice display of wild flowers, and the wooden carvings on the trail are super nice. There are plenty of benches to stop at too.

This is a really well-known, popular place with local walkers, and runners. It is a very dog friendly place too. The trail is not really accessible to the infirm however, or if you are chair bound. The surface is 90% dirt, and it gets very muddy after some rain. It also has a very steep section half way along the trail that has steps, and even a rope handrail.
