This cute wooden tea house, built in 1912 in the chalet style, is a real historical gem and is part of the beautiful historic estate. From the house you have a breathtaking view of the surroundings, because it is high above the pond. In the past, the stone part under the house was used as an ice cellar and water storage. The teahouse was recently lovingly restored by Utrechts Landschap, retaining the original details, such as the beautiful wooden sash windows and the spiral staircase to the ice cellar. And now you can book it for a wonderful holiday!

Frans Jan Hendrik de Wetstein Pfister (1852-1926), the former tea plantation director of the Indian Culture Society in the Dutch East Indies, was a hydraulic engineer and made the area fertile by creating good water management. After a well was found on the site, ponds were constructed as part of the job creation. These were connected by a brook-like channel. Concrete bridges were built over those ponds. A bathing facility was also constructed on the site. One of the mills was for pumping water for this pool. Excess water from the swimming pool was led to the vegetable garden via an aqueduct. Due to desiccation, the well that used to be here no longer works.

The soil released from the ponds and the canal was used to build a bank along the largest pond. A chalet-style tea house was built on the bank between the villa and the pond. From there was a beautiful view of the surroundings. Under the teahouse was a water reservoir with an ice cellar underneath. To go from the house to the pond, three tunnels were dug in the earthen wall, two as a walking tunnel and the middle one as a sailing tunnel through which a boat could be sailed.

Around 1915, De Wetstein Pfister had a narrow gauge railway to the granary built for the transport of sand, agricultural products and wood. [3] The line was later given a recreational function. The barn would be confiscated by the Germans in World War II. In addition to a tennis court, there was already a golf course, built in 1894, where the Doornsche Golf Club played until 1927. The golf ball had to be hit from the teeing place across the fen to the hole.

In the spring, Heidestein is full of woodpecker nests. The ideal location to easily photograph a young woodpecker. Look for a hole in a tree that makes a lot of squeaks and wait for it to show itself.
