In the 19th century, the country estates Hoog Beek, Royen and Pavia were built here. Since its purchase in 1913, special developments have taken place in the forest, such as the construction of the general cemetery (1916), the construction of the hospital (1926), small-scale housing construction (from 1919) and the establishment of the De Boswerf visitor center (1976). ). There was once a small zoo, as evidenced by the artificial rock near the mane sheep next to the Hunter's House. In 1994, Het Utrechts Landschap became owner and manager of the Zeisterbos. The status of a protected nature reserve means that building in the forest will also be excluded in the future.
