Over the Gießelhorster Bäke

The Gießelhorster Bäke once meandered peacefully through the Ammerland. Now it keeps causing the cellar to be flooded. Actually, the Westersted district of Ocholt is not necessarily associated with floods - but a closer look reveals a different picture: The Gießelhorster Bäke has repeatedly caused flooding and wet cellars in the village in recent years. The brook once meandered through the Ammerland, in other words, it meandered in curves through the landscape: water finds its way. Over the years the Bäke has been straightened more and more, in some cases side arms have been pinched off. Such interventions not only change flora and fauna, but also the speed of flow - sometimes with devastating consequences.
