There are connecting areas in the port of Ghent. Linking areas are green areas and nature reserves that separate the villages and the industrial areas from each other and have an important buffering function.

The Desteldonk coupling area is the first of the 16 coupling areas to be set up in the Ghent canal zone.

You can explore the area via hiking and cycling trails. On the side of the Lichterveldestraat is a park zone, where you can picnic, play petanque, ping pong or football.

In the area you can also spot water birds at the large water features. Reeds and typical marsh plants grow there.
