The military conflicts between the bishopric of Brixen and Count Albert III., Caused Ulrich von Rasen in 1230 to build the castle. From the beginning their survival was endangered. At the end of the 13th century it was "downed" for reasons no longer comprehensible.
The present castle keep and much of the Beringes date from the 14th century and were built under Bishop Albert von Enn. The tower is about 17 m high and was inhabited (five floors with partly paneled rooms).
In the late 15th / early 16th century, the castle receives its present appearance. The kennel, the gate, most of the east wing and the cistern are from this period. An artificially created ditch led to a wooden bridge leading to the Zwinger and the outer castle gate.
At the beginning of the 17th century, the ruin is no longer inhabited and then forfeits its ruin.
