South-east of the village of Niederrasen, above the church and on a wooded mountain slope, rises the castle ruins Altrasen, built around 1200 by the Lords of Rasen. This building was first mentioned in a document by the Bishop of Bressanone. In 1259, the castle was already overwritten by Meinhard II to his wife, this testifies that the castle had not long remained in the possession of its builders.
