Along the Schönenbach (Wiese River)

This wide hiking trail between Todtnau and Aftersteg not only leads along the Schönenbach stream, but you can also see small streams and mini waterfalls on the other side of the trail (November 2021).

Very nice hiking trail. You'll pass it on the circular route anyway.

The path between Todtnau and Aftersteg leads along the "Wiese" river, which is called "Schönenbach" in this section."...The Wiese is a 57.8 km long, right tributary of the Rhine. From its source in the Southern Black Forest on the Feldberg, it flows first for a short distance in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district and then mostly in the Lörrach district, passing through the district town of Lörrach, among other places.The Wiese rises in the Black Forest in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park. Its source, the Wiese spring, is located in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, immediately west of the Hebelhof residential area of the municipality of Feldberg, between the Feldberg (1,493 m above sea level), the highest mountain in the low mountain range, to the northwest, and the Grafenmatt (1,377.6 m) to the south-southwest at an altitude of approximately 1,218 m. Federal Highway 317 runs a few meters north of the source in the Feldberg-Ort–Hebelhof–Todtnau section.
The Wiese enters the Lörrach district shortly below the Wiese spring. In the Black Forest, it initially flows southwest along the B 317 through the Wiesental. Coming from the Feldberg, it flows, squeezed between the steep mountain slopes of the High Black Forest, still as a mountain stream past the hamlets of Fahl and Brandenberg and through the center of Todtnau. From there, it flows to and through Schlechtnau, past Geschwend, through the towns of Utzenfeld, Schönau im Schwarzwald, Wembach, Fröhnd, and through Mambach, Atzenbach, and Zell im Wiesental. ..."
