The village of Hermanville-sur-Mer was liberated on the morning of 6 June 1944 by the 1st Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers).
This memorial commemorates the 288 officers and soldiers of the Battalion who gave their lives during D-Day and the following operations to liberate North West Europe.
