Large tarn with dramatic views up the flanks of Coniston Old Man, and in the other direction down towards Coniston and Coniston Water (on a clear day). There is a weir at the SE corner that is crossable (with care, especially if there has been heavy rain as the water flows fast) - this avoids a long detour down into the Coppermines Valley to gain access to the paths leading up to the lower fells beneath the Old Man.
