Hiking

The Groeneveld mill is part of the picture of Schiplouden. There used to be a wooden mill here, which burned down because lightning struck. The current mill was then built in 1719. The Groenveldse mill is a so-called water mill. There were many of these in the Midden-Delfland region, but few have survived. The Groeneveld mill survived!

Wikipedia: The Groeneveldse windmill in Schipluiden was built in 1719 to replace an earlier wooden windmill, which burned down after a lightning strike. The mill drains, together with a mortar pump, the Groeneveldse polder. Until 1960, the polder was drained exclusively using wind power. After the construction of a pumping station, the mill was shut down. The paddle wheel that raises the water 1.90 m was equipped with an electric motor in the early 1980s, which is still functioning.
