The Gothic town church of Schlitz is a Protestant church.
The church was originally a columned basilica built by the Fulda abbot Ratgar on the town hill. It was consecrated to Saint Margaret on September 20, 812 by the Mainz archbishop Richulf. This date is the first documented mention of the town of Schlitz. Since the Reformation in Schlitz in 1546, the town church has been Protestant and belongs to the Evangelical parish of Schlitz.
